News Release

Wisconsin Council,

Hostelling International

American Youth Hostels (HI-AYH)

New Hostelling International Milwaukee Summer Hostel Open June 1 through August 5, 2001

HI-AYH and Marquette University work together to bring downtown Milwaukee its first international hostel.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin – For the first time ever, Milwaukee will host travelers from Wisconsin and the world at a summer hostel at Marquette University’s McCormick Hall on 16th and Wisconsin Avenue.  The HI-Milwaukee Summer Hostel will be downtown Milwaukee’s most affordable accommodation.

From 1530 West Wisconsin Avenue, guests will be able to explore Milwaukee, the City of Festivals, with its many ethnic festivals throughout the summer, including Summerfest.  The hostel’s location makes attractions such as the Circus Museum Parade, Germanfest, the Milwaukee Riverwalk, museums, theater, and Lake Michigan’s beaches easily accessible.

Hostel guests may use our lounge, kitchen, laundry facilities, game room, and computer room featuring internet access.  Each guest’s stay includes bed linens, towels, and free local calls.  Parking in an adjacent lot is available for a nominal charge.  Hostel check-in and access will be between the hours of 8:00 to 11:00am and 5:00 to 10:00pm.

Near buses and trolleys, shared room rates start at $17 per person plus tax, with private and family rooms also available.  There is a $3 surcharge for guests who are not members of HI-AYH.  Annual membership to HI-AYH is free to non-profit groups and youth under 18, $25 for adults, and only $15 for seniors.

Reservations are available for groups of up to 66 people.  Please call or email the council if you have any questions or would like to make reservations at our hostel.

Look for the blue HI-AYH logo when you are seeking accommodation in Milwaukee!
